Renaultsport has squeezed 276bhp from a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine for the latest version of its Mégane hot hatch.

This is deployed to the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic or six-speed manual gearbox. There’s also a new four-wheel-steering system called 4CONTROL, which is designed to increase high-speed stability while making the car more agile at low speeds.

And as we’ve come to expect with fast Renaults, buyers will get the choice of a Sport chassis and a more hardcore Cup version, the latter adding a mechanical limited-slip differential and stiffer dampers.
